All the way from Italy, Sicily in specific, La Fabbrica Italiana has arrived in town to bless us with one of the most fascinating concepts of all times: A Focacceria.
La Fabbrica Italiana focuses on “three things and three things only”: Foccacia, Burrata, and tiramisu, which is heaven to those who amore Italian food, like me. All the ingredients are freshly brought from Italy and prepared here in Dubai.
The restaurant is a family-owned business, and you will be able to sense that the minute you walk in, because you’ll be warmly greeted and instantly feel at home. I had the privilege to chat with the owners about the concept and the history of La Fabbrica, which made me even more excited to try everything.
The restaurant introduces a new take on focaccia bread which is different than what we are used to. The focaccia is topped with different ingredients, making it more than just bread. They also have focaccia sandwiches; try the “Pugliese” if you love Bresaola, it’s the owner’s favourite!
They have all different types of focaccia. Whether you’re a vegetarian, a meat-lover, or a seafood person, you will find something that matches your taste. Once you walk into the restaurant, you will find all the different types of focaccia displayed for you to pick from. My favourite was the “Contadina”; a work of art and it tastes even better than it looks. It is a heavenly mix of vegetables and cheese. They also have sweet focaccia, topped with Nutella and hazelnut.
The tiramisu’s recipe is a story by itself: the owners told me that it is in fact THE original recipe of a tiramisu which is created by their aunt in the fifties; who prepared it for a Greek princess during her visit to Italy. And they have the handwritten recipe hung on the restaurant’s wall as part of the restaurant’s history. So, next time you order the tiramisu, remember you’re having a royal dessert!
Unlike other tiramisu, La Fabbrica’s is crafted into two layers only. And the reason behind that is so you can pick the level of sweetness. Dig lightly with your spoon if you want a mild-sweet scoop or dig deep for a sweeter taste. I loved every scoop of this one.
The owner also highlighted that the focaccia is fermented for 48-72 hours in advance which makes it kind on the stomach, meaning no bloating whatsoever. Want to know how good and fermented a focaccia is? See if bubbles show on the focaccia😉
